Get Up, Stand Up: inspiring action against violence.

a collaborative project by Hollaback! Istanbul & DreamTree Productions

 The Bibliotheca Multicultural Centre will host Get Up, Stand Up:  inspiring action against violence.  The event is organized by Canımız Sokakta: Hollaback! Istanbul & DreamTree Productions.

Get Up, Stand Up is a night of visual and performance art. The aim is to raise awareness and work toward ending harassment & violence in all its forms. Donations and proceeds will benefit local organisations that focus on ending physical and verbal violence.

Enjoy a night of artistic expression while helping your community.

Where:           Bibliotheca Multicultural Centre; Anadolu Sokak No: 23/6, Beyoğlu-Istanbul

When:            19 October 2012; 20.00-23.30

Tickets are 15TL- 12TL for students and can be purchased at the door.

4th arAda festival takes place in istanbul through the artists from Amsterdam and Istanbul.
Festival’s concept is ‘who i am?’ , questioning by the triangle of person-society and identification.
The performances which examines the sexual,national roles imposed by society or prefered/unprefered indentities will be hold 3 days in 3 different places.The performances are all free.

How the media, the biggest power between  society and the individual is processing the awareness of gender?  While the crime is being commited, who gets the benefit of the language that the media constructs; about harrastment, rape, murder, mobbing and the women or the LGBT ‘s social status ?

Does the society shape the media or the media shapes the society?

Every Thursday at 20.00 on Nor Radio Ülkühan Zekioğlu reveals the gender of  the media!


Constructing Gender Equality Conference

The Conference of Constructing Gender Equality which has been organised by MEDIAR, KA.DER, Mor Çatı, will take place on 5-6th of October, in Garanti Kultur Merkezi-Ayhan Sahenk Salonu,  Bogazici University.  

The conference will be in Turkish.

“There is a kitchen in Tarlabaşı. It is not like any other kitchen. It has neither cooks nor customers. Here, everybody is a cook and all the food is shared. It belongs to the neighborhood and everyone is welcome.”
On Friday, August 3 there will be a solidarity party organized by the migrant solidarity network. It will take place at Leyla Teras, Bekar sok. no. 14 kat 4 Taksim at 8 pm. We hope you will join!

On Sunday the 1st of July, we invite you kindly to join the solidarity breakfast at Amargi!! It takes place from 12:00 – 3:00 pm so there is no rush to wake up early on Sunday.

As the years before our breakfast will be organized in context of the LGBTT pride week. Afterwards we can join the demonstration together, which will start at 5:00 pm at Taksim square.

You can buy a ticket for the all-you-can-eat-buffet from now on at Amargi or just at the event. Ticket price is 10 TL and includes free tea as much as you want.

Finally Transborder Feminist Encounters is happening!

The conference will take place next weekend on the 26th and 27th of May in Taksim Hill Hotel.

Transborder Feminist Encounters is a meeting of feminists from middle eastern countries to share feminist knowlegdes and experiences across borders. It is organized by Amargi on the 26th and th 27th of may and is located in Taksim Hill Hotel.

Our aim is to reflect upon common peacefull feminist politics in the workshops and to make future plans together.



8 May

Next Friday, on the 11th of may at 7:00 pm, there will be the second movie night at Amargi, concerning the topic female filmproducers in Turkey. We will show the movie Journey to the sun (Güneşe Yolculuk) by Yeşim Ustaoğlu, which is telling the story of a friendship between a turkish and a kurdish man.

The movie will be in Turkish with English subtitles. Afterwards we would like to invite you to stay for having some discussions.


Provocative Performances by Şükran Moral

On the 26th of april, the Turkish artist Şükran Moral was invited to Amargi to showcase and talk about her art.

Şükran Moral is known for being a provocative performance artist, who focuses on the repression and marginalization of women, immigrants, prostitutes, transsexuals and mentally-disabled people. Nowadays, she divides her time between Rome and Istanbul.

After she showed us video clips of her performances, we had an interesting discussion about issues surrounding her art.
